Deep down, I think I always wanted to be a coach. Although, if you had asked me when I was younger I would have said I never really knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. So instead I hedged my bets—applying to med school, business school, and teachers' college all at once.
Looking back, the answer was obvious. Friends were constantly coming to me for advice—and I loved providing it! But at the time, life coaching wasn't a 'real' career path. The options were doctor, lawyer, or something with a respectable title and a steady paycheck. So, I did what I was 'supposed' to do.
And I did it well. I built a very successful corporate career for myself. I got the promotions. Quickly rose up the ranks. Received accolades and admiration from my colleagues. It was the kind of career that looked great on paper—the kind that makes parents proud. And for a long time, I thought I was happy. Until I started to notice a whisper in the back of my mind, growing louder every day: 'Bet on yourself.'
At first, I ignored it. Because why would I walk away from success? From certainty? From the thing I worked so hard to build? The tipping point came in the middle of leading a customer research initiative. I found myself sitting in the homes of women with less money, fewer resources, and no fancy job titles—and they were happier than me. They had a peace about them that I had never experienced in my life.
That moment sent me spiraling into a bit of an identity crisis. I had done all the 'right' things… Why didn't I feel the way I was 'supposed' to feel?
Then, the pandemic hit. For the first time in my career, things weren't going my way. I was being excluded from meetings, and all my external validation started to disappear. My confidence plummeted. I hired a coach, started searching for a new job, and ultimately landed at a new corporation that was a temporary fix. Deep down, the wheels were still spinning, and I was still running in circles, unsure of what I really wanted.
That's when I started coaching on the side—at first for free, just helping people the way I always had. That's when everything started to click. Coaching felt natural, effortless, fulfilling in a way my 'real' career never had.
I finally accepted: This is what I was meant to do—and it could be fulfilling, fun, and financially viable!
It took me a while to fully admit it to myself, because I had to let go of the idea of success I had built up in my mind. Up until this point, I had spent my whole life chasing external validation—believing that the next title, salary bump, or achievement would finally make me feel whole.
The truth is, I was chasing a version of success that wasn't mine. And I see so many of my clients doing the same thing—pushing forward, achieving more, without ever stopping to ask themselves: What do I actually want?
Now, my work is about helping others break that cycle. I support high achievers in building careers they feel deeply fulfilled by—whether that means climbing the corporate ladder, starting that side hustle, or discovering something they never even dreamed of. I truly believe that you don't have to choose between success and happiness. You can have both. And if you've been waiting for a sign to bet on yourself—this is it.
